Teacher Training Testimonial “To all of you! ... Because of you, I've had very many first and second hand compliments about my teaching ability during 12 hours of workshops over this four day camp. Everything that I know is because of you and I thought of you all often during this time. Thank you for contributing to my life and most thanks to Diane et al for their brilliance and vision in writing the book.” I’m halfway through the American Rhythm syllabus and am enjoying the process very much. During the summer and went back to my small community in the BC interior and taught two of the four dances I earned in my Associate. The practical application of my new skills and the subsequent feedback from my students has only increased my respect for this method of learning and teaching! The early patterns emphasize lead and follow skills and really give students the firm foundation in the basic weight changes that a student has to master before moving on to more complicated patterns. Initially I confess I thought some of them a little boring but now having taught them, I see their merit – it’s in the confidence that my students were then able to advance once they were solid with their basic weight changes, footwork and lead and follow skills. The material is comprehensive and challenging but the goals are achievable! The Director of Roca Blanca studio, Brian Udal is an inspiring role model, a beautiful dancer and a generous instructor who clearly knows his syllabus and is able to isolate and discern where corrections as well as compliments are deserved. Additionally, Diane Jarmelow, our examiner and author of the Dance Vision syllabus, is a warm and gracious woman who is extremely knowledgeable about dance. Furthermore, the atmosphere at the Roca Blanca studio is supportive and unpretentious and the other teachers-in-training, as well as the students attending the evening classes are having fun, making new friends and learning new dance skills. I recommend the teacher training program to anyone considering a career as a ballroom dance instructor. - Fran |
